"Love Your Ink"

Four years ago, just after Inga was 18, she got her 1st tattoo by an artist called Adamski who ran a studio called ‘The Nitty Gritty”. From then on she was hooked. Fast forward to today and she is the proud owner of her own tattoo studio in Newbury – Bloody Marys Tattoos.Located on the 1st Floor of St Marys House in Cheap Street, Bloody Marys consists of a small but much loved team of three. Alongside Inga in the team is JME. “JME’s the cartoon master” say Inga “what comes out of his head baffles me. He’ll sit there and draw a Walrus in a martini glass with an olive and pipe and it will look amazing. If I ask him where he got the idea from, he’ll have no idea, ‘just fancied it’. It’s either madness or genius” she continues.
Then there is Hannah who Inga refers to as her ‘lil star’. Hannah isn’t hitting the skin yet but when she does it will be immense. Her drawing has come on so much since she’s been with Bloody Marys and with the ability to learn very quickly she’ll be one to watch.
Inga’s list of influences are quite broad with Filip Leu, Lal Hardy, Carson Hill, Nikko, Hannah Aitchison, Tomas Tomas, Mr X and even her own family making that list. “I’m at a point in my life where I feel real jammy because there are so many people to aspire to and I just want to learn everything”. By her own admission, Inga says she’s a bit of a nerd “ I have a massive passion for Alice in Wonderland so most of my work tends to be a little surreal and dream like; soft shading with lots of smoke and fine lines”.
From that original tattoo, Inga had returned back to Adamski and asked him if he wanted a skivy. He had told her that if she bought in 10 sheets of tattoo flash which were drawn by her he’d think about it. It was while she was working with Adamski that the inspiration for her studio name came. Adamski was singing a Backyard Babies song, turned to her and said “That’s about you that is”.
… And what if Inga wasn’t a Tattoo Artist what would she be?? “Oh I would still have to be something a bit odd. Not sure really. I tend to just fall into jobs so who knows!? Wallpaper designer? Shoe tester? Rubber flooring specialist?”
But for now the tattoo artist hat fits extremely well and with the motto ‘Love Your Ink’ Bloody Marys has my vote.
