"One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach, all the damn vampires." Well to be honest, if any town had Beautiful specimens such as those featured in The Lost Boys you'd have a job keeping me out of there, Bloodsuckers or not those guys were rad. I first saw The Lost Boys when I was a squeaky clean 13 year old, I suddenly developed a HUGE obsession with the film "Stand by me" and went out of my way one summer to hire as many films as I could that featured the young cast from that flick- I was on first name terms with all the staff at High Wycombe's Blockbuster by that September! Honestly, when I first saw it I thought it was okay but I didn't fully appreciate it at the time as I was harboring a gargantuan teen crush on River Phoenix & was disappointed to find he wasn't in it. As time went on and I experienced all the typical things reckless teens experience & as my infatuation with the 1980's grew & grew I found myself digging out that film and watching it over and over again. Things were different now, I'd developed my own style, I was heavily into Punk & Heavy Metal in a village that time forgot, needless to say I was outsider. I fell in love with the whole concept and vibe of that film. I've never been a Vampire film fan..I'm still not, but what I loved the most about the Lost Boys was it was never really about fangs and drinking blood. It was about being an outsider, a misfit, finding kinship with other like minded humans and realising that you aren't alone and you're not a weirdo if you're different after all. I see that film as timeless- in style and in message. It will forever remain a firm favourate in my film collection, my generations film collection & im sure in the film collections of the future! "Sleep all day, Party all night. Never grow old. Never Die. It's fun to be a vampire".
